The “Sade Trial” and the New Left in the 1960s: Focusing on the Ideas of Shibusawa Tatsuhiko and Haniya Yutaka

This article analyzes the “Sade Trial,” which was closely related to events that unfolded in the 1960s. First, I discuss the incidents in the 1960s relevant to the birth of the New Left. Second, I consider the ideological characteristics of Shibusawa Tatsuhiko, who was the defendant in the “Sade Trial.” Finally, I analyze what Shibusawa attempted to clarify through this trial and the testimony given by Haniya Yutaka, which represents the New Left ideology, in the “Sade Trial.” The conclusions of this study are as follows: Khrushchev’s criticisms of Stalin, the Hungarian Revolution, and disappointment with the Japanese Communist Party resulted in a new ideology among young Japanese people known as the New Left, leading them to campaign against the Japan-U.S. security treaty. Although Shibusawa Tatsuhiko was influenced by the New Left, under the influence of the Marquis de Sade he had no political ideals, but rather insisted the destruction of the current system and firmly adhered to his individuality. Shibusawa’s tactics as demonstrated through the “Sade Trial” revealed the ideas he and Sade had sought to realize. Additionally, this study indicates that Haniya Yutaka interpreted this infamous trial through his ideals of a classless society.

本論文は1960年代という時代と緊密に繋がっている｢サド裁判｣ について分析したものである。第一に、1960年代に新左翼がどのような事件を契機に誕生したかについて検討した。第二に、サド裁判の被告人だった渋沢龍彦の思想的な特徴について考察した。第三に、サド裁判について分析した。裁判の中で、とくに渋沢がサド裁判を通じて明らかにしようとしたものが何だったのかについて論じ、さらに新左翼を代表する埴谷雄高がサド裁判で証言した内容について分析した。本論文の結論は以下の通りである。 新左翼は、ソ連のフルシチョフによるスターリン批判とハンガリー反乱、そして日本共産党に対する失望感によって青年たちが誕生させた新しいイデオロギーで、彼らはこれを武器に安保闘争の主役になった。新左翼と親交のあった澁澤龍彦は、そのような関係性にもかかわらず、サドの思想を支持して政治に関しては理想を持たず、絶え間ない体制への反乱を主張し、さらに、徹底的に個人であることに固執した。このような渋澤の思想はサド裁判で見せた彼の戦術を通して実現されたといえよう。さらに、新左翼を代表する埴谷雄高は、この裁判で彼の理想である階級のない社会という思想を、サドの思想を解釈するのに活用していることを浮き彫りにした。
