자서전을 통해 본 북한지역 출신 재일 조선 유학생들의 학업과 사회활동

Academic and Social Activities of Students Studying in Japan from North Korea Seen through Autobiographies

일제시기 재일 조선 유학생들의 활동을 추적한 이 연구는 그들이 조선을 떠나올 때의 심리상태로부터 유학 생활과 귀국에 이르기까지의 전반적 활동을 재구성하였다. 유학생들의 목적의식, 고학, 학업성취 과정, 독서회와 각종 조직 활동을 비롯한 사회운동은 이 연구가 특히 주목한 테마들이다. 일제시기 재일 조선 유학생들의 활동상은 사회적 차별과 멸시를 당하며 당국의 탄압까지받은 그들이 어떻게 저항의식을 품고, 현실의 부조리에 맞서 새로운 사회의 건설에 디딤돌을 놓고자 했는가를 잘 드러낸다. 더 나아가 조선 유학생들의 사회활동은 식민지 조선에 사회주의 사조가유입될 수 있었던 가교역할이 바로 그들을 통해 이루어졌음을 보여준다. 낮은 수준의 미시사ㆍ일상사적 관점에서 접근한 이 연구는 잘 알려지지 않은 유학생 개개인들의 경험을 조합하여, 그들의유학 생활 전과정을 하나의 일관된 스토리로 재구성하고자 하였다. 이러한 연구방법의 장점은유학생 개개인들의 심리상태를 생생히 드러낼 뿐만 아니라, 당대의 시대 분위기와 사회상을 예리하게 포착할 수 있다는 점에 있다.

This study, which traced the activities of Korean students studying in Japan reconstructed their overall activities from their psychological state when they left Korea to their life of studying abroad and their return. Earning their own school expenses, academic achievement, social movements including reading circle and various organizational activities in their life of studying abroad are main topics of this study. The activities of Korean students studying in Japan during the Japanese colonial period show how they who were subjected to social discrimination and even oppression by the authorities, developed senses of resistance and tried to set a stepping stone for the construction of a new society against the absurdity of reality. Furthermore the social activities of Korean students show that they served as a bridge to bring socialist thought to colonial Korea. This study which was approached from micro-historic and daily historic perspective tried to reconstruct the entire process of their life studying abroad by combining experiences of students studying abroad who are not well known. Strong points of this research method are that it not only vividly reveals the psychological state of individual students, but also that it can capture the mood and social image of the time sharply.
