This article aims to analyze how Christianity shaped Anne’s education. When Lucy Maud Montgomery was writing Anne of Green Gables, she sincerely studied the Bible for the first time in her life and started a relationship with a pastor who became her husband. With him, she had a philosophical and theological conversation about Christianity while writing this novel. For this novel was written under such circumstances, Christianity takes a big part in Anne’s education. Anne shocked Marilla Cuthbert by saying that she has never prayed before coming to Green Gables. However, under the guidance of strict, devout Christian Marila, Anne grows to be a dedicated Christian woman. Anne’s inborn positiveness and liveliness, along with Marilla’s Christian education, lead Anne to be a woman with a faithful and loving heart. In the end, she becomes thankful for her work, dream, and the love she got. The Christian spirit thus plays an essential part in Anne’s growth to be a reliable and beneficial woman in her community.
