공정한 스포츠를 위한 윤리학적 정초

The Ethics of Tolerance in Sports

왜 관용의 윤리인가? 인간의 존엄성과 자유라는 대전제에서 보면 불관용의 현실적 상황이 만연된 모습은 신념의 부재이거나 도덕성의 무감각으로 치부 될 수 있다. 그러나 우리의 현실이 좀 더 교양 있는 사회로 발전되고 스포츠 문화 역시 고질적 권위주의와 연고주의에 매몰되어 황금만능의 상업주의로의 현실을 탈피하지 못한다면 스포츠 문화의 건전화는 요원한 일이다. 그럼으로 우리의 스포츠 문화에도 불관용을 최소화하고 관용의 윤리가 확산되어야 할 것으로 전망한다. 그럼으로 이와 같은 현실을 볼 때 물론 스포츠는 우정이나 자유와 같은 가치들을 육성하지만 인종주의의 전통을 강화 시킨다던가 여성을 폄하하는 성차별주의를 받아들이는 전통과 악습은 지지를 받지 못한다. 그럼으로 건전한 가치 선택을 위한 관용에 대한 강조는 강화 될수록 스포츠맨 정신에 합당할 것이다. 특히 다문화 사회에 있어서의 스포츠는 스포츠의 국제화와 연관됨으로 더욱더 관용의 윤리가 강조되어야 하고 스포츠의 도덕교육을 통해서 관용의 덕이 강조되어야 할 것이다.

Why is the ethics of tolerance needed? From the major premise of human dignity and freedom, the prevalence of intolerance in reality may be attributed to insensitivity about morality or absence of faith. In fact, we all want to make our society more cultured and sophisticated. If our sports culture is trapped in chronic authoritarianism or nepotism and keeps adhering to commercialism grounded on mammonism, it would be very difficult to make it sound. Therefore, in our sports culture, too, we should spread the ethics of tolerance while reducing intolerance as much as possible. In consideration of the reality, of course, sports promote values like friendship or freedom whereas vicious practices in sports, for example, racism getting reinforced or sexism of denigrating women should not be supported. Accordingly, tolerance to go with sound values can never be emphasized enough in sportsmanship. Particularly in multi-cultural society, the internationalization of sports matters in sports, so the ethics of tolerance should be stressed even more, and through moral education in sports, the virtue of tolerance should be emphasized enough.
