메타버스를 활용한 교양철학 교육에 관한 고찰

A Study of General Philosophy Education in the Metaverse: Focusing on the ‘VRChat College’ Case

본 연구는 메타버스에서 이루어진 교양철학 강의의 한 사례를 분석함으로써, 비대면화의 물결 속에서 교양철학 교육이 나아가야 할 향방을 모색하고자 한다. 일방적인 지식 전달보다는 토론과 의사소통이 강조되는 철학 교육의 특성을 고려할 때, 양질의 교양 철학 교육이 비대면의 방식으로 어떻게 이루어질 수 있는가에 대해서는 진지한 고찰이 필요하다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제의식 하에 다음의 세 단계로 이루어진다. 먼저 교양철학 교육의 의미와 필요성에 대해 논의한다. 두 번째로, 동일한 교양철학 강의가 대면으로 진행되었을 때와 비대면으로 진행되었을 때를 비교함으로써 비대면 교양철학 교육의 한계를 검토한다. 마지막으로, 앞선 두 논의에 기초하여 메타버 스 플랫폼을 통한 교육이 교양철학 비대면 교육의 한 가지 대안이 될 수 있음을 보인다. 본 연구는 메타버스 플랫폼 ‘VRChat’에서 실제로 진행된 미학 강의의 사례를 분석하여, 메타버스 플랫폼을 통한 교육이 교수자와 학습자 사이의, 그리고 학습자 간의 상호작용을 보완하고 강화할 수 있다는 점에서 이점을 갖는다고 주장한다.

This study aims to find the direction in which general philosophy education could proceed amid the big wave of virtualization by analyzing a lecture course in general philosophy conducted in the Metaverse. Considering the characteristics of philosophy education that emphasizes discussion and communication, it would be necessary to consider how general philosophy education could be conducted. With these problems in mind, this study will consist of the following three steps. First, we will discuss the nature and significance of general philosophy education. Second, we will illuminate the limitations of online general philosophy education by comparing cases of a face-to-face lecture with a non-face-to-face one. Finally, based on those previous considerations, we will show that education in the Metaverse might serve as a promising alternative to non-face-to-face general philosophy education. This study analyzes the case of an aesthetics lecture conducted in ‘VRChat’, which is a popular Metaverse platform, and argues that education in the Metaverse has an advantage in that it could supplement and even strengthen interactions, especially between learners.
