낙질본 『충렬공명행록』에 대하여

A Study on Lacking Volumes of 『hungryulgongmyeonghaengrok』

본고는 실전된 한글장편소설 『충렬공명행록』의 경개와 그 내용적 특징을 추정한 것이다. 『충렬공명행록』의 현전하는 이본은 모두 네 종으로, 순천시립 뿌리깊은나무박물관에 4권 4책, 서울대학교 중앙도서관 일석문고에 1권 1책, 김광순 소장본 1권 1책, 국립한글박물관에 1권 1책이 소장되어 있다. 『충렬공명행록』은 94권 94책으로 이루어진 이본이 존재했던 것으로 추정된다. 94권 94책본을 기준으로 하였을 때, 대략 29～30권, 내용으로는 소씨 가문의 1대와 2대의 서사는 우순효행담을 핵심 서사로 하고 있었다. 뿌리깊은나무본 1권～4권의 권별 분량은 34,000여자에서 40,000여자로, 94권 94책의 전체 분량은 아마도 319만자에서 최대 376만자에 달했을 것으로 추정된다. 이는 현존하는 최장편 고전소설 『완월회맹연』의 전체 분량인 298만자를 상회하는 방대한 분량이라는 점에서 주목할 만하다. 『충렬공명행록』은 작품의 주요 사건과 갈등구조, 유사한 삽화의 존재, 역사적인 사건과 주인공 부자의 행동이 유사한 점에서 『완월회맹연』과 가장 비교할 만한 작품이다. 다만 『완월회맹연』이 조선시대 최상층의 의식을 반영하고 있다면, 『충렬공명행록』은 가문의 규모가 단출하고 예법에 대한 의식이 철저하지 못하다는 점에서 여항인이나 실세층의 의식을 어느 정도 반영하고 있는 것으로 보인다. 앞으로 추가적인 자료가 발굴되어 『충렬공명행록』의 모습에 대해 보다 자세히 밝힐 수 있기를 기대한다.

This paper researched the contents and characteristics of the Korean novel Chungryulgongmyeonghaengrok. There are four existing copies of Chungryulgongmyeonghaengrok, with four volumes and four books at the Suncheon Municipal Museum, one book at Seoul National University Library, one book owned by Kim Kwang-soon, and one book at the National Hangeul Museum. It is estimated that there existed a copy consisting of 94 volumes Chungryulgongmyeonghaengrok. Approximately 29 to 30 volumes of 94 volumes, the first and second generations of the So family had the story of filial piety as the core narrative. It is estimated that the total volume of Chungryulgongmyeonghaengrok was probably between 3.19 million to a maximum of 3.76 million characters, with 34,000 to 40,000 volumes per volume. This is noteworthy in that it is a vast amount of more than 2.98 million characters, the total amount of the existing longest classic novel, Wanwolhoemaengyeon. Chungryulgongmyeonghaengrok is the most comparable work to Wanwolhoemaengyeon in that the main events and conflict structure of the work, the existence of similar illustrations, and historical events and the actions of the protagonist and his father are similar. However, if Wanwolhoemaengyeon reflects the consciousness of the uppermost class of the Joseon Dynasty, Chungryulgongmyeonghaengrok seems to reflect the consciousness of female and influential people to some extent in that the size of the family is simple and the consciousness of etiquette is not thorough. It is hoped that additional data will be discovered in the future to reveal in more detail the appearance of Chungryulgongmyeonghaengrok.
