Japanese direct investment abroad in 1990s is different from that of the previous period. In general it didn`t increase not so much after the bubble collapse in early 1990s. Specially Japanese direct investment abroad decreased radically in early 1990s when bubble collapsed and in late 1990s when Asian financial crisis and Japanese financial crisis happened. While world direct investment abroad has increased sustainedly, Japanese direct investment abroad has fluctuated because Japanese firms weakened in the aspect of ability in coping with the situation change of world economy. Therefore Japanese firms took a prudent attitude toward a problem of direct investment abroad.
