The author analyzed the competitiveness of 219 Korean electronic and eletric parts(in HS 6 Unit) in Japanese market using a 10-year trade data between Korean and Japan(2000-2010) to figure out clear causes of Korea`s trade deficit to Japan in electronic and eletric parts industry. The author found Korea has recorded a growing trade surplus to the world in electronic and eletric parts industry while having relatively short list of competitive items in Japanese market based on TSI Analyses. The analyses revealed that Korea`s competitiveness in electronic and eletric parts industry has been enhanced since 2000 in worldwide market with a growing number of items considered as more competitive than past. From this research, 3 implications can be drawn for Korea`s electronic and eletric parts industry promotion policy. First, to focus on high value products to secure niche market in the world, Second, to support a continuous R&D investment to overcome highly competitive Japanese companies with cutting edge innovations, Third, to promote Japanese companies` FDI to Korea as a long-term technological infrastructure while supporting a continuous domestic R&D investment. For now Korea has a relatively short term perspective in this matter.
