함경도 일대 고분 조사와 북한의 발해 고분 연구

Critical review of survey and North Korean’s study on Balhae tombs in Hamgyeong Province

발해 고고학에서 함경도 일대 고분이 차지하는 비중은 그다지 크지 않지만, 2000년 이후 이 일대의 발해 고분 조사보고가 늘어남에 따라서 함경도 일대 발해 고분을 정리할 필요가 있다고 판단하였다. 이 글에서는 일제강점기 이래 함경도에서 조사된 고분을 종합하여 고분 구조를 살피고, 이 일대 발해고분에 대한 북한의 연구 성과를 검토함으로써 연구 과제를 제시하고자 하였다. 함경도 일대 고분은 적석총과 석실봉토분, 석곽봉토분으로 대별 된다. 적석총과 궁륭식이나 고임식 천장의 석실은 고구려 고분의 특징의 하나로, 북한에서는 함경도 일대 고분에서 보이는 이러한 특징을 발해 고분의 고구려 계승으로 해석한다. 한편, 고구려 석실에서는 보이지 않는 원형이나 타원형 평면의 석실, 판상석을 이용한 석곽은 발해 여타지역과 구별되는 이 일대의 특징이다. 부장품에서도 부장된 기승용 마구나 금제 태환이식은 고구려와 유사성을 보이며, 마구 중에는 신라의 것과 형태적 유사성을 보이기도 한다. 복합적인 양상의 함경도 일대 고분을 북한에서는 모두 발해 고분으로 간주하고, 구조의 유사성으로 발해 고분의 고구려 계승을 해석하며, 고구려 계승에는 주민의 계승을 포함하여 고구려에서 발해로의 주체적 역사발전을 강조한다. 북한의 이러한 해석은 함경도 일대에서 고구려에서 발해, 고려로의 계기적 이행이 간과된 것으로 이는 향후 함경도 일대 고분 연구에서 고려되어야 할 과제이다.

In the study of tombs in Balhae, it can be said that the tombs in Hamgyeong province were almost excluded. However as the increasing the numbers of excavated Balhae tombs, it was need to review them. So, it was aimed review the tomb’s structure in Hamgyong Province, and suggested the problems of North Korean’s tomb study. It was confirmed that there are stone mound tomb, stone chamber-earthen mound, stone chest-earthen mound tomb in Hamgyong Province. Some tombs among the stone mound tomb and stone chamber-earthen mound are similar to those of Koguryeo. And some tombs have characteristics of this area. While the horse harnesse and golden thick ring earings which are rare burial items in Balhae tombs are similar to those of Koguryeo, and Silla. In North Korea, various tombs in Hamgyeong province are regarded as Balhae tombs, and interpreted the succession of Koguryeo. Furthermore it is emphasized on the independent historical development from Koguryeo to Balhae and Balhae to Koryo, including the succession of the inhabitants. The North Korea’s interpretation of Balhae tomes in Hamgyeong province seems clear, but there are some problems are not taken into account in the structure and burials of the tombs in the point of the historical context of the region from Koguryeo to Balhae to Koryo. And it has a problem of oversimplifying the various elements reflected in the tombs. Therefore, the meaning of paper is that it emphasized the need to consider the historical context in the study of tombs in Hamgyeong provincethe area from Koguryeo to Balhae.
