본 연구는 시민교육에 대한 요구가 높은 시대․사회적 맥락 속에서 유아기 자녀를 둔 부모의 시민의식 수준에 따른 유아시민교육에 대한 요구도를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 유아교육기관에 자녀를 보내고 있는 부산 및 경상도에 거주하는 2-5세 유아의 부모 226명으로부터 4개 변인을 측정하는 설문지를 사용하여 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 21.0으로 기술통계 및 대응표본 t-검증, Borich 공식 및 The Locus for Focus Model 결과를 바탕으로 부모의 시민의식 수준에 따라 유아시민교육이 가정과 교육현장에서 얼마나 중요하게 그리고 얼마나 잘 실행되고 있다고 생각하는지를 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 유아시민교육 내용 영역에 대해 Borich 요구도에 따라 우선순위를 산출한 결과 자타 문화 이해, 인간의 존엄성, 합리적 의사결정, 공익과 공공선, 합의 도출 과정 순으로 나타났으며 The Locus for Focus Model 결과 인간의 존엄성이 부모의 교육 요구가 가장 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 유아시민교육 문항별 내용에 대해 Borich 요구도에 따라 우선순위를 산출한 결과 인권이 가장 높은 순위인 반면, 규칙이 가장 낮은 순위를 보였다. The Locus for Focus Model 결과 최우선 순위로, 평등과 공정, 인권, 자율성, 사회 정의, 의견의 다양성 등이 나타났다. 셋째, 부모의 시민의식에 따른 유아시민교육에 대한 Borich 요구도에 따라 우선순위를 산출한 결과 시민의식 상위 집단에서 자타 문화 이해가 나타난 반면, 시민의식 하위 집단에서 인간의 존엄성이 나타났다. The Locus for Focus Model 결과 최우선 순위로, 시민의식 상․하위 집단에서 인간의 존엄성이 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 평등과 공정, 인권과 자율성이 포함된 인간의 존엄성을 우선순위로 고려한 교육내용과 가정과 교육기관이 함께 실행하는 유아시민교육에 대해 논의하였다.
This study aimed to analyze parents’ needs in citizenship education for early childhood according to parental citizenship in social contexts with a high need for citizenship education. For this purpose, we collected data from 226 parents of young children using a survey questionnaire. A SPSS 21.0, paired t-test, Borich request formula, and the Locus for Focus model were used for data analysis. The results are as follows. First, five categories and 17 contents showed significant differences between the important and practice levels. Based on the analysis conducted using the Borich request scale, understanding other cultures was the highest priority, followed by rational decision making, public interest(s) and common good, and the mutual agreement process. The highest parental need for citizenship education based on the Locus for Focus model was human dignity. Second, the highest priority regarding educational content based on the analysis using the Borich request scale was human dignity, and the lowest priority was rules. The order of priority of parents’ needs for citizenship education based on the Locus for Focus model was equality and justice, human dignity, autonomy, social justice, and diversity of opinion. Third, based on the analysis conducted using the Borich request scale, the high citizenship and low citizenship groups respectively perceived understanding of other cultures and human dignity as a priority for citizenship education in early childhood. The first priority need was human dignity among all parent groups, regardless of the citizenship level. This study suggests that educational content about human dignity should include justice, equality, human rights, and autonomy. Additionally, family-preschool cooperative practices for citizenship education in early childhood were discussed.
