Cinematic Worlds in Color. Technology, Aesthetics, Analysis

Research on film colors rarely considered an interdisciplinary approach that combines deep investigations of film color technology and material analysis with systematic investigations into color film aesthetics and narrative patterns including the cultural context on a large scale. In this paper such an interdisciplinary approach will be presented based on several research projects that have been established and executed in the last few years by the author and her research teams. The most important foundation of this research is the Timeline of Historical Film Colors https:// filmcolors.org, a comprehensive interactive web resource on the history, technology, aesthetics, restoration and scientific analysis of film colors.
