日本語母語話者の雑談における言いさし表現: スピーチレベルによる使用様相と機能を中心に

An Analysis of Suspended-expressions in Small Talks by Native Japanese Speakers: Focusing on the Usage Aspect and Function according to the Speech Level

本研究では、日本語母語話者の雑談における言いさし表現をスピーチレベルと機能の観点から検討した。まず、言いさし表現のスピーチレベル別出現度を見ると、丁寧体レベルは15％、普通体レベルは10％であった。丁寧体レベルは相手の領域を侵すことへの躊躇から、普通体レベルは談話をテンポ良く展開させるために使用する特徴が見られた。 観察された言いさし表現を機能別に見ると、丁寧体レベルは｢断定回避｣が最も多く、続いて｢情報補足｣｢情報提示｣の順で観察された。断定回避は言いさし表現｢みたいな｣が、情報補足は、新たな情報を少しずつ補足し提示することによって、聞き手が興味を持つ話題がどのようなものなのかを探りつつ談話を展開、情報提示は｢て｣で終わらせる言いさし表現が特徴として観察された。 普通体レベルは｢意見提示｣が最も多く、続いて｢強調｣｢反論｣の順で見られた。意見提示は聞き手が異なる意見を持っている可能性を考え言いさし表現で文末を濁し、強調は文末に自己․聞き手を納得させる｢から｣を付ける発話が特徴として見られた。反論は、発話に対する責任を軽減させるために文末を濁しつつ伝達したい話し手の発話理由があると考えられる。 以上の結果から、日本語母語話者の雑談における言いさし表現をスピーチレベル別に分析することで、スピーチレベルにより使用される機能に違いが見られることがわかった。

In the present study, I analyse suspended-expressions in small talks by Japanese native speakers in terms of their speech level and functions. The analysis indicates that with respect to the frequencies of suspended-expressions in terms of speech level, the polite-form level accounts for 15% whilst the colloquial-form level accounts for 10%. The motive for selecting the polite forms is the speakers’ hesitation to intrude the addressee’s realm, and the motive for selecting the colloquial forms is the speakers’ intention to develop a discourse at a good pace. With respect to the functions of the observed suspended-expressions, the polite forms are more frequently used for ‘the avoidance of assertion’, followed by ‘the supplement of information’ and ‘the presentation of information’. As for the colloquial-form level, the most frequently attested type of functions is ‘the presentation of an opinion’, followed by ‘emphasis’ and ‘objection’. In the presentation of an opinion, a speaker takes into account a possibility that the addressee has a different opinion and uses a suspended-expression in order to produce an utterance in a blurring way.
