Convergence Research Between Tourism and Sports Science for Integrated Resort Industry Studies

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to establish the identity of convergence research between tourism and sports in Journal of Tourism and Sports Research published by the Korea Integrated Resort Forum (established in 2021) for the theoretical and practical research on Integrated Resort (IR) industry. Method: Through examining the current status of research based on literature research in the fields of tourism and sports, the direction of convergence research in the two fields focused on the Integrated Resort was found. Results: The authors saw the possibility that Integrated Resort (IR) industry could be established theoretically and practically through convergence research in the fields of tourism and sports. Conclusion: In order to achieve the purpose of Korea Integrated Resort Forum, Journal of Tourism and Sports Research was published in an effort to promote inter-disciplinary convergence research. Through the convergence between the fields of tourism and sports, Journal of Tourism and Sports would show that a new horizon of convergence research is pioneered and the related knowledge is accumulated, and further it is expected to establish a new convergence academic foundation and network for university undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and professors in that new field.
