여말선초 대명(對明) 요하례(망궐례)의 거행과 의식 구조 변화

Changes in the Performance of Yoha Ritual for the Ming Dynasty during Goryeo·Joseon Dynasty

이 논문에서는 고려말 명과 공식적으로 외교관계를 시작한 1369년(공민왕 18, 홍무 2)부터 조선 『세종실록』 오례가 완성되기까지 대명(對明) 요하례(遙賀禮)의 거행과 그 의식 구조에 대해 살펴보았다. ‘요하례’란 멀리서 경하하는 의례로서, 황제의 궐을 향해 행한다는 뜻에서 ‘망궐례(望闕禮)’, 멀리서 배례를 행한다는 의미에서 ‘요배례(遙拜禮)’라고도 칭해지고 있다. 고려·조선의 대명 요하례는 설·동지·성절·천추절에 명에서 거행된 조하례(朝賀禮)와 관념상 연동되어 행해졌다. 고려의 대명 요하례는 1370년 명에서 『번국의주』 1책을 하사한 것으로부터 시작되었다. 고려는 『번국의주』를 기준으로 『번국예의』를 제작하였고, 그 내용이 『고려사』 예지 가례에 ｢원정동지상국성수절망궐하의(元正冬至上國聖壽節望闕賀儀)｣로 전해진다. 이후 고려의 대명 요하례는 조선으로 계승되었으며, 태종·세종대의 보완·정비 과정을 거쳐 『세종실록』 오례에 ｢정지급성절망궐행례의(正至及聖節望闕行禮儀)｣가 수록되기에 이르렀다. 두 의주는 『번국의주』에 기준을 두고 있기 때문에 전체적인 구조 및 운영 방식이 거의 비슷한 가운데 세부적으로 몇 가지 차이를 보인다. 즉 이 시기의 대명 요하례는 명에서 제정한 의례를 충실히 따르는 것을 바탕으로, 시간이 흐를수록 보완·정비가 이루어지는 모습을 확인할 수 있다.

This paper looks into the performance and the structure of Yoha Ritual(遙賀禮) for the Ming Dynasty since the beginning of the official diplomatic relationship at the end of Goryeo Dynastiy until the completion of the 『Sejong Silok(世宗實錄)』 National Five Rites. Yoha Ritual which is a ritual congratulated from afar is also called Manggwol Ritual(望闕禮). Goryeo’s Yoha Ritual for the Ming Dynasty started when the Ming Dynasty bestowed the first book of 『Beonguk Euiju(蕃國儀注)』 upon Goryeo in the year of 1370. Goryeo created 『Beonguk Yeui(蕃國禮儀)』 based on 『Beonguk Euiju』 and its content had been passed down as ｢The Manggwol Ritual for Lunar New Year’s Day·Winter solstice·the Birthday of the Emeperor(元正冬至上國聖壽節望闕賀儀)｣ in 『The History of Goryeo(高麗史)』. Henceforth Goryeo’s performance of Yoha Ritual for the Ming Dynasty was passed down to the Joseon Dynasty and became recorded as ｢The Manggwol Ritual for Lunar New Year’s Day·Winter solstice·the Birthday of the Emeperor(正至及聖節望闕行禮儀)｣ in 『Sejong Silok』 National Five Rites after going through the revision process during King Taejong·Sejong. The performance of Yoha ritual during this period is based on following the rituals established by the Ming Dynasty while displaying some modification as the time passed by.
