중등 학습자의 사회정서역량 실태와 쟁점

Current Status and Issues of Secondary Learners’ Social and Emotional Skills: Based on OECD Competence/Skill Education Discourse

이 연구의 목적은 변혁적 역량 시대에 주목받고 있는 사회정서역량의 이론적 기반(개념, 구인, 평가틀)을 정리하고, 중등 학습자의 실태를 확인하는 것이다. 사회정서역량은 사회정서학습 이론에 근거한 용어인데, OECD의 역량교육 담론의 핵심 용어로서 주목받고 있다. OECD는 SOL(학습의 사회적 성과)과 ESP(교육과 사회진보) 프로젝트를 거치면서 비인지 역량인 사회정서역량의 중요성을 확인하고 국제공동 조사연구를 진행해 왔다. 이에 이 연구에서는 OECD ESP의 사회정서역량 조사연구(김현진외, 2020)와 서울학생역량 검사를 활용한 초·중학생의 사회정서역량 연구(우연경 외, 2021)의 결과를 중심으로 중등 학습자의 실태와 특성을 분석하였다. 우리나라 중등학습자의 사회정서역량은 3.5~3.7점(5점 만점) 수준으로, 스트레스 관리를 포함한 ‘정서조절’ 점수가 낮은 점이 특징이었다. 그리고 초등 고학년에서 중2까지 학년이 높아질수록 사회정서역량이 하락하는 양상과 남녀 학생의 성차도 확인되었다. 그러나 이러한 실태는 사회정서역량의 개념과 구인의 혼란, 수치 해석의 문제, 자기보고식 설문 조사의 한계, 교육의 필요성과 효과성 문제까지 다양한 쟁점을 배태하고 있었다. 이 연구에서는 사회정서역량 관련 쟁점을 정리하고 교육적 시사점을 제시하였다.

This study organizes the theoretical basis of social and emotional skills(SES), which is being highlighted in the era of transformative competency, and to confirm the status of secondary learners. SES is a key term based on the theory of social and emotional learning, and is attracting attention as a key term in the OECD’s skill education discourse. The OECD has confirmed the importance of SES, which is non-cognitive competency, through SOL and ESP, and has conducted an international study. Therefore, this study analyzed the reality and characteristics of secondary school learners, focusing on the results of Kim et al.(2020) and Woo et al.(2021). The SES score of students was 3.5~3.7/5.0 points, which was characterized by low ‘emotional control’ including stress management. In addition, as the grade increases, from the 5th to 8th, SES decreases, and the gender difference was confirmed. However, this finding has raised a variety of issues, including the confusing concept and construct of SES. Four issues were summarized and educational implications were presented.
