This study focuses on Brother Anthony’s and McCann’s translations of So Chong Ju’s five poems: ‘Self-portrait,’ ‘A Leper,’ ‘Noontide,’ ‘Azure day,’ and ‘Beside a chrysanthemum.’ They are compared and analyzed based on the rhythms on the phonological layers as well as the syntactic ones. Concerning the rhythms on the phonological layers, some lines in ‘Self-portrait’ are reviewed, which demonstrates that the rhythms on phonological layers cannot be used to compare ST and TTs due to some phonetic differences between Korean and English. The review of 'syntactic layered rhythms' can be divided into two categories. First, how did the translators translate the final forms used by the poet? The noun and the abbreviation endings are kept in Brother Anthony’s translation more than in McCann's. With the exclamation and interrogative endings, the translators added their interpretations. Second, how did the translators translate the punctuations unused by the poet? Even though the poet did not use any punctuations, the translators utilized the punctuations according to their interpretations.
