동아시아 의학의 관계적 존재론

Relational Ontology in East Asian Medicine: An Ontological Anthropology Reading of “Comprehensive Discourse on Phenomena Corresponding to Yin and Yang (陰陽應象大論)” in Neijing-Suwen (內經-素問)

이 논문은 최근 인류학의 ‘존재론적 전회’ 논의와 동아시아의학을 연결해 보고자 하는 시도이다. 인류학은 최근, 인간-비인간, 문화-자연, 인간-물질 등 근대서구의 분절적 사유를 내재한 채 연구를 진행해 왔다는 성찰을 하고 있으며, 이를 통해 ‘존재론적 전회’의 이름 아래 인류학을 다시 쓰는 작업을 하고 있다. 인류학의 존재론적 전회는, 최근 여타 인문사회과학에서 논의되고 있는 신유물론(New materialism), 에이젼셜 리얼리즘(Agential realism), 행위자연결망이론(Actor-Network Theory, ANT) 등과 방향성을 공유하고 있지만, 비서구에 대한 현지조사를 통해 비서구의 형이상학을 적극적 논의의 대상으로 삼는다는 차별점이 있다. 이러한 인류학의 존재론적 전회의 방향성은 한의학에 내재한 동아시아 사유를 다시 읽는 모멘텀을 제공하고 있다. 본 논문은 『황제내경-소문』 텍스트와 이에 대한 공부 모임에 대한 현장 연구를 바탕으로 동아시아의학에 내재한 존재론을 논의해 보고자 하였다. 『내경-소문』은 하나의 관계적 존재론을 제시하고 있다. 사시음양과 같은 이치를 바탕으로 각각의 컨텍스트에서 다양하게 드러나는 존재들과 그 존재들 사이 관계를 말하고 있다. ‘일관성-내재 관계적 존재론(consistency-embedded relational ontology)’이라고 표현할 수 있을 이러한 동아시아의 존재론은 근대적 형이상학에 의해 제한되어 있던 사유의 지평 확장의 가능성을 드러낸다. 본 논문이 존재론적 전회와 동아시아의학 속 동아시아 사유를 연결한 예시를 제시할 수 있기를 고대한다.

This paper attempts to relate East Asian medicine and the ‘Ontological turn’ in anthropology. Recently, anthropological reflexivity has focused on its modern metaphysical underpinnings that premise hierarchical divides of human/non-human, human/matter and culture/nature, and has striven to re-write anthropology under the name of the ‘Ontological turn.’ Even though it shares its direction of overcoming modern limits with ‘New materialism,’ ‘Agential realism,’ or ‘Actor-Network Theory (ANT),’ the turning movement in anthropology is differentiated in its active discussion of non-western metaphysics, providing a momentum to re-read East Asian thought internalized in East Asian medicine. Against this backdrop, this study discusses Hwangdi Neijing, Suwen drawing on anthropological fieldwork at study sessions of the text organized by Korean medicine doctors. Neijing-Suwen proposes a relational ontology. It delineates the relationship of diverse beings, based on certain rules such as Four-Season-Yin-Yang(四時陰陽), which are variously elaborated in different contexts. This non-Western metaphysics, that can be called consistency-embedded relational ontology, highlights a potential that can extend a horizon of thought being limited by modern metaphysics. This study hopes to provide an example that relates the ‘Ontological turn’ and East Asian thought within East Asian medicine.
