The Determinants of FDI and The Relationship between FDI and Economic Growth

FDI에 영향을 미치는 요인이 무엇인지, FDI와 경제성장의 관계는 어떻게 정립해야하는지에 대한 논란이 끊임없이 이어져 오고 있어서 본 고는 기존의 연구들을 이론적 그리고 실증적 측면에서 고찰하고 분류하면서 논란의 중심에 있는 이슈들을 조명함으로써 미래의 연구자들에게 연구의 방향을 제시하고자 하는 것이다. 해외에 투자하고자하는 기업이 수평적 FDI를 하고자 하는지 아니면 수직적 FDI를 하는지에 따라 FDI에 영향을 미치는 요인이 달라질 수 있으며, 투자시기, 현지국의 정치경제상황, 인프라수준, 현지국의 각종제도 등이 영향을 미치는 요인이다. 또한 FDI유입과 경제성장의 관계에 대해서는 양방향의 인과관계, 일방향관계, 그리고 이들 사이에 아무런 인과관계가 없다는 연구결과가 상존해 있다. 본 고는 특히 실증적 분석의 결과가 왜 학자들마다 다른지 그 이유를 조명함으로써 이 분야에 대한 연구의 패러다임을 제시하고자 한다.

There are continuous debates about what the determinants of FDI inflow are and the relationship between FDI inflow and economic growth. This research tries to give the direction of research by considering and classifying the existent theories and empirical analyses and lighting up the issues at the center of controversy. The determinants of FDI can be different according as corporations invest abroad for horizontal FDI or vertical FDI and they are investment time, host country’s political and economic situation, the level of infrastructure, host country’s various systems and all the sort of things. There are three directional research results about the relationship between FDI inflow and the economic growth: bidirectional causality, one direction and no relationship. Especially, this research tries to present the paradigm of the research field by focusing on the reason that each research gives different results of empirical analysis.
