기업의 혁신활동과 지식자산축적이 국제화에 미치는 효과

How Firm’s Innovation Activity and Intellectual Asset Accumulation Affect Its Internationalization

본 연구는 제조기업을 대상으로 기업의 혁신활동과 지식자산축적이 국제화(수출액 및 수출집약도)에 미치는 영향을 분석하였으며, 이를 위해 코스피 315개 상장제조기업과 코스닥 552개 상장제조기업의 2000년부터 2012년까지 13년간 패널자료를 활용하였다. 전체 867개 제조기업에서 기업의 혁신활동은 지식자산축적과 수출액 및 수출집약도에 시차를 두고 지속적으로 정의 영향을 미치고, 지식자산축적은 수출액 및 수출집약도에 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 통제변수인 기업규모는 지식자산축적과 수출액에 정의 영향을 미치고, 매출액순이익률은 수출액 및 수출집약도에 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 코스피 제조기업에서 기업의 혁신활동은 지식자산축적과 수출액 및 수출집약도에 시차를 두고 정의 영향을 미치고, 지식자산축적은 수출액에 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 통제변수인 기업규모는 지식자산축적과 수출액에 정의 영향을 미치고, 매출액순이익률은 수출집약도에 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 코스닥 제조기업에서 기업의 혁신활동은 지식자산축적과 수출액 및 수출집약도에 시차를 두고 정의 영향을 미치고, 지식자산축적은 수출액에 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 통제변수인 기업규모는 지식자산축적과 수출액 및 수출집약도에 정의 영향을 미치고, 매출액순이익률은 수출액에 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

The paper aims to investigate the question of how firms’ innovation activities and intellectual asset accumulation affect their internationalization, using panel data from Korea’s manufacturing firms spanning the period between 2000 and 2012. The empirical tests are carried out with disaggregate or pooled sample that contain(s) the KOSPI and(or) KOSDAQ manufacturing firms. To avoid omitted variable bias, firm size and net profit margin are controled in the model. The commonality has been found in the empirical test results of the study is that the present and time-lagged value of firm’s innovation activity has a positive effect on its intellectual asset accumulation, and that the intellectual asset accumulation has a positive effect on the internationalization, calculated in terms of export value and export intensity. There is also solid evidence that the net profit margin and firm size used as control variables have positive effects on the intellectual asset accumulation and export value, and export value and export intensity, respectively. Some academic contributions and policy implications based on the results of this paper are suggested.
