우리나라의 BRICs 국가에 대한 해외직접투자(FDI) 관계 분석

A Study on the Relationship between Korean FDI and the BRICs countries based on the Gravity Model

본 논문에서는 최근 해외직접투자 대상국으로 많은 관심을 모으고 있는 BRICs 국가에 대한 우리나라의 해외직접투자 현황을 살펴보고 중력모형(Gravity Model)을 이용하여 우리나라의 BRICs 국가에 대한 해외직접투자를 투자 수준, 수출과의 관계, 여타 국가에 대한 투자에 대한 영향 등 세 가지 주요한 대외 교류 차원에서 분석하였다. 분석결과에 따르면 우리나라의 BRICs 국가에 대한 해외직접투자수준은 여타 직접투자 대상 국가에 비하여 아직 낮은 수준으로 향후 이들 국가에 대한 해외직접투자가 증가할 여지가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 아울러 우리나라의 해외직접투자와 수출 간에는 대체관계보다는 보완관계가 존재하는 것으로 분석되었다. 마지막으로 우리나라의 BRICs 국가에 대한 해외직접투자는 미국, 일본 등 기존 투자대상국에 대한 해외직접투자를 감소시키지는 않는 것으로 나타났다.

In this paper, we examine the current Korean foreign direct investment(FDI) in BRICs countries, which have become the world's most popular FDI destinations. Based on the gravity model regressions, we find that Korean FDI level in BRICs countries are still relatively low and more Korean FDI into BRICs countries is expected. Also we find that Korea's FDI is generally not substituent but rather complementary to the Korean export and this is true also when we include BRICs countries. Finally, we find Korean FDI in BRICs countries does not seem to negatively affect Korean FDI in other countries such as U.S. and Japan.
