Korea's Free Trade Agreements: Searching for a Feasibility Approach

본 논문은 국가간 복지수준, 소득수준, 물가, 무역수지 등의 경제적 지표를 기초로한국 자유무역지역의 경제적 효과를 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 역내 및 역외국간의 활발한 개방적 지역주의의 채택은 전세계 무역자유화의 경제적 효과를 증진시킨다. 둘째, 한국, 칠레, 일본, 미국, 중국 등과의 지역간 무역의 촉진은 자유무역지역의 경제적 효과를 증진시킨다. 셋째, 한-칠 FTA, 한-일 FTA, 한-미 FTA, 한-일-중 FTA 는 전세계의 자유무역지역의 경제적 효과를 증진시킨다. 이러한 연구 결과는, 한국 주도의 적극적인 자유무역지역 체결이 NAFTA, AFTA, CERTA, EU 등의 다른 경제블럭에 긍정적인 경제적 효과를 미친다는 것을 의미한다.

This paper examined Korea's Free Trade Agreements: Searching for a Feasibility Approach. Based on the data collect with welfare level, income level, inflation, and trade balance, the following results were found. First, the economic effects of world's free trade areas can be enhanced through an open regionalism. Second, the economic effects of world's free trade areas can be enhanced through the inter-regional trade among Korea, Chile, Japan, U.S., and China. Third, the economic effects of world's free trade areas can be enhanced through the economic effects of a Korea-Chile FTA, a Korea-Japan FTA, a Korea-U.S. FTA, and a Korea-Japan-China FTA. However, there are several limitations, such as measurement for the economic effects of free trade areas, small sample size, and secondary data in using parameter from simulation analysis, that make the preceding conclusions be considered preliminary.
