한국 제조업부문의 비교우위변화와산업내 무역에 관한 실증적 연구

An Empirical Study on the Intra-Industry Trade and Comparative Advantage Change of Manufacturing Industry in Korea

1995년～2002년 기간동안 한국 제조업부문에 있어 국제표준무역분류(SITC) 3단위 분류의 166개 산업을 대상으로 측정한 무역특화지수를 가지고 비교우위의 변화를 분석한 결과, 대 세계와 대 중국을 대상으로 무역특화지수가 수출특화의 방향으로 지속되고 있으므로 앞으로 산업간 무역이 증가될 것으로 예측된다. 산업내 무역 측면에서는 기술 및 자본집약재산업의 SITC 5그룹과 노동집약재산업의 SITC 6그룹에서 대 세계와 대 일본을 대상으로 산업내 무역이 활발하고, 기술 및 자본집약재산업의 SITC 7그룹과 노동집약재산업의 SITC 8그룹에서는 대 세계와 대 중국 모두에 있어 산업내 무역이 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 이러한 결과는 산업내 무역이 동종산업에서의 동시적인 수출입 현상을 대상으로 하기 때문에 대 중국 및 대 일본과의 경쟁이 나타날 수밖에 없음을 시사한다. 따라서 한․중․일 3국간 자유무역협정(FTA)을 논의하는 초기적 단계에서 수입의존도가 높은 산업을 중심으로 산업내 무역을 좀더 구체적으로 연구하여 한국 제조업의 무역구조 개선과 관련된 실질적인 정책적 시사점을 도출해야 할 것이다.

As a result of analysing the change of comparative advantage using Trade Specification Index(TSI) measured to the 166 industries of 3 digit by Standard International Trade Classification (SITC) in Korean manufacturing field during 1995 and 2002, Trade Specification Index toward World and China has sustained in a direction of export specialization, so it is predicted inter-industry trade will increase. Thus, for the industry having comparative advantage, steady investment and research and development should be carried out, and for that having comparative disadvantage, it is required a new policy should be established to convert that to substitute industry. In the aspect of intra-industry trade, 5 SITC groups of technology and capital intentive industry and 6 SITC groups of labor intentive industry have actively proceeded with intra-industry trade toward World and Japan, and 7 SITC groups of technology and capital intentive industry and 8 SITC groups of labor intentive industry have actively proceeded with intra-industry trade both toward World and Chinese. This results suggests that as intra-industry trade is subject to spontaneous export and import phenomena in the same kind of industry, so they are forced to face competition with Japan and China. Thus in the initial stage of discussing Free Trade Agreement(FTA) between Korea, China and Japan, we need to more concretely inquire into intra-trade industry focused on highly import-dependent industry, and reform the trade structure of Korean manufacturing industry and draw out substantial policy suggestions with regard to it.
