미얀마 군부 권위주의체제의 딜레마

The purpose of this study is to review the recent changes of military authoritarian regime, and to understand the dilemma of the military government between regime maintenance and liberalization in Myanmar (Burma). The Myanmar militia (tatmadaw), who had seized the political power by coup in 1988, denied the electoral result in the 1990 election, and has maintained political power until the present time. However, they have been criticized with the lack of political legitimacy and the limitation of political power. To restore these limitations, the military regime has carried out various projects to improve the Myanmar economy. Nonetheless they still have the dilemma between regime maintenance and liberalization for economic development. For regime maintenance, the military government has need of the economic development, but the economic development can be successful only when the authoritarian regime will be change or shift over. The present military regime in Myanmar, is proceeding the gradual and moderate change, which is needed for economic development, but this political change will not ensure the future democratization in Myanmar.
