I present the following policy proposal to map out a strategy for an effective and substantial free trade agreement among Korea, China and Japan from the standpoint of Korea. First, in order to emerge victorious in cutthroat competition it is prerequisite to arrange a strong weapon called FTA based on prudent and accurate research and acquire trustworthy companions speedily on a sustainable basis. Second, more emphasis should be placed on international cooperation in human resources development and the science and technology sector through the FTA rather than the increase in trade. Third, a variety of local economic systems and regulations should be reformed to meet international standards, thus enhancing the transparency, rationality and rapidity of our economy when the FTA is signed. Fourth, policy consideration should be made to select carefully competitive products so that they can maintain their superiority continuously after the FTA is signed. Fifth, plans to nurture competitiveness of the markets of tourism finance and services should be made and linking them with tourist and financial products of the region should be pushed to cope with the opening of the service market.
