This paper highlights on the unequal industrial development and analysis of regional disparities in India since 1960. In an attempt to analyze on the regional imbalance, the combined component scores(CCS), considered as the composite index of development, was explained in terms of per capita cumulative plan outlay(CPO) in simple regression model. To study the uneven development process as a whole, 'composite index of development' is developed through the 'principal component analysis(PCA). The average ‘Euclidean’ distance were on the increase till 1980/81 and reduced in the subsequent years in India. This findings corroborates the hypothesis of inverted U-shaped curve.
