This paper aims to review research trends of American politics in Korea since the 1990s, and help future research by suggesting theoretical and empirical perspectives in American politics which have been done by American scholars. Particularly, using papers, which are published in Korean Political Science Review, Korean Journal of International Relations, and Korea and World Politics, this paper analyzes numerical trends of research in sub-fields of American politics, and gives some critics based on theoretical perspectives formulated in the US. As empirical findings, this paper argues that since 1990, there has been a growing research on American politics in both numerical and qualitative terms. In addition, after reviewing papers published in Korean Political Science Review, this paper concludes that research in Korea about American politics have gone beyond introductory level, reflecting theoretical perspective presented by contemporary studies in the US. Finally, this paper suggests the professional study group within the same discipline as a basic, and efficient form of research to nurture future Area Studies as an inter-discipline studies in Korea.
