러시아 극동지역의 발전과정에서 나타난 황화론(黃禍論)에 관한 연구

The paper examines the Russian images of Chinese minority in the Russian Far East from the comparative-historical perspective. It focuses on the differences in the Russian attitudes towards the Chinese minority in the Russian Far East between in the late 19th century and in the late 20th century. The model used in the paper assumes that conflicts between host country and ethnic minority depend on rational responses to the strategic situations with which both parties are faced. In those situations are included economic roles of the ethnic Chinese in the region and such geopolitical characteristics inherent in the Russian Far East as the strength of adjacent China as the reference state of ethnic Chinese in the Russian Far East and regional differences and conflicts between the Russian central government and the regional governments in the Russian Far East as well. Based on analyses of these factors, it is argued that Russians' discriminatory attitudes towards Chinese minority in the Russian Far East was relatively weak in the late 19th century, while the Russian discrimination against ethnic Chinese becomes stronger in the late 20th century.
