Baekje Buddhism And the development of ancient Japanese Buddhism

삼국시대 불교가 우리나라에 들어 온 이후로 백제의 불교는 국내적으로 큰 발전을 이루었다. 그러나 이에 관해 알려 줄 수 있는 국내 사료는 많지 않다. 국내보다는 백제와 정치 외교적으로 밀접한 관계를 유지하고 있었던 일본에 백제불교에 관한 내용이 보다 많이 남아 있다. 일본의 대표적인 관찬 사서인 󰡔일본서기󰡕에는 삼국 관련 불교 기사 중 백제 불교에 관한 내용이 절반을 차지할 만큼, 고대 일본 불교 전반에 백제 불교의 영향이 큰 비중을 차지하고 있었다. 본 논문은 󰡔일본서기󰡕 백제 불교 기사를 중심으로 당시 백제와 일본 간 불교 교류를 당시 백제의 정치외교적 상황과 함께 살펴보고, 백제불교가 사비시대 말기까지 지속적으로 일본 불교 발전에 어떻게 영향을 끼치고 있는지를 살펴보고자 한다.

Since Buddhism in the Three Kingdoms period came into Korea, Buddhism in Baekje has made great progress domestically, but there are not many domestic historical sources that can tell you about it. Rather, a lot of information about Baekje Buddhism remains in Japanese historical documents, which maintained close political and diplomatic relations with Baekje rather than domestically. Baekje revolutionized Buddhism in Japan, and among the three kingdoms, it had the greatest influence on the development of Buddhism in Japan. This paper contains a relatively large amount of information about it. This thesis tried to find the status of Baekje Buddhism in and outside Baekje at that time by analyzing articles related to Baekje Buddhism, the Japanese official librarian, "Nippon Shoki". In particular, the influence of Baekje Buddhism on Japanese Buddhism was examined through Japan's acceptance of Baekje Buddhism and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
