Reviewing the New Deal Cultural Policy: Focusing on the Federal One

본 논문은 뉴딜문화정책이 뉴딜의 비전과 목표에 지닌 함의를 검토하고자한다. 기존 연구들은 주로 경제·정치적 성과를 통하여 뉴딜을 평가했고 그로인하여 뉴딜의 지향성과 비전은 명확하게 이해되기 어려웠다. 이에 본 논문에서는 뉴딜문화정책 중 뉴딜 페더럴 원의 전개와 주요 논의들을 검토함으로써 뉴딜이 지향했던 공동체의 비전과 시민의 권리에 대해 고찰하고자 한다. 결론적으로 본 논문에서는 뉴딜이 지향했던 미국 시민의 권리에 ‘만인을 위한 예술’을 통한 삶의 질 향상이 포함되었음을 지적한다.

This paper examines the implications of the New Deal cultural policy for the overall vision and goals of the New Deal. Existing studies mainly evaluded the New Deal through economic and political performance, and as a result, it was difficult to clearly understand the direction and vision of the New Deal. Therefore, this paper intends to clarify the vision and the civil rights that the New Dealers aimed at by examining the New Deal Federal One. This papers comes to a conclusion in the minds of the New Deal cultural advocates, American citizenship included enrichment of the life through the “Art for the Millions.”(Kyung Hee Cyber University)
