본 논문은 김정일의 사망의 의미와 이로 인한 우리 정부의 통일전략의 방향을 제시하고 있다. 김정일의 사망은 단순히 한 개인의 죽음이아니라 그 의미는 언설로 다 표현하기 어려울 정도로 크다. 우선 김정일의 사망은 김일성-김정일 양대 세습정권이 유지해온 신권통치의 종언을 뜻한다고 할 수 있다. 둘째, 김정일의 사망은 북한 체제 변혁의 신호탄적 의미가 있고 마지막으로 김정일의 사망은 한반도 및 동북아 안보정세변화의 도화선적 의미가 있다고 하겠다. 이러한 의미를 지니고있는 김정일의 사망을 계기로 우리 정부가 취해야 할 통일전략은 첫째, 내부의 체제정비작업이 요청된다. 현재 우리 사회내부는 이념, 세대, 지역 등으로 분열되어 있다. 이런 분열상태로는 통일을 기할 수 없기때문에 정부는 강력한 체제정비작업을 단행해야 한다. 둘째, 자유민주적 가치에 의거하여 통일전략을 모색해야 할 것이다. 자유민주주의는우리의 국가이념이자 세계인류의 보편적 가치라는 점에서 결코 양보할수 없는 통일의 원칙이다 추진원리이다. 셋째, 우리의 통일전략은 북한의 급변사태에 대해 면밀히 대응하는 차원으로 나아가야 한다. 마지막으로 우리 정부는 한·미동맹체제를 보다 굳건히 구축하여 북한 체제의변화에 대응해야 할 것이다.
This thesis is the study on the direction of Korean unification strategy after the death of Kim Jong-Il. The death of Kim Jong-Il is not a death of a person but a death with significant connotations. First, the death of Kim Jong-Il means the end of the rule by a divine right. Secondly, his death means the flare of the change in the North Korea's ruling system. Finally, the death of Kim Jong-Il means the cause of the security's change in the Korean peninsula and the Eastern Asia. With this Kim Jong-Il 's death meaning upper mentioned matters, the direction of our unification strategy is as in the following. First, our government must to pursue the work of re-organizing the our inner system. For the overcoming dividing sources in our society, our government has to push ahead with he work of re-organizing the our inner system. Secondly, Our government must to pursue unification strategy under the value of the liberal democracy. The liberal democracy is the principle of Korean reunification. And then, a liberal democracy is our national ideology absolutely not giving up. Finally, our unification strategy has to go forward the direction providing closely about the sudden turn in North Korea.
