예배 회복을 위한 칼빈의 창조론적 제언

Calvin’s Suggestion for the Restoration of Worship from the Perspective of the Doctrine of Creation

본 논문은 칼빈의 예배론을 창조론의 관점에서 살펴보는 가운데 그가 예배 회복을 위해서 어떤 제언을 했는가를 고찰한다. 이 목적을 달성하기 위해서 먼저 칼빈의 예배 본질 이해를 십계명의 첫 번째 계명을 중심으로 고찰하는 가운데 그가 하나님의 말씀에 근거한 예배를 특히 강조했다는 사실을 살펴보았다. 또한 칼빈은 종교개혁 이전에 로마 가톨릭 교회가 참된 예배를 왜곡한 우상숭배에 대해서 날카로운 비판을 제기했는데 이 비판에 대해서 크게 하나님에 대한 인간의 오류, 반역, 그리고 교만이라는 관점으로 나누어서 살펴보았다. 예배 회복을 위한 그의 창조론적 제언에 대한 예비적 고찰로서 칼빈의 창조론에 나타난 자연 이해를 하나님의 의상, 하나님의 영광의 극장, 그리고 하나님을 드러내고 비춰주는 거울의 세 가지로 나누어서 생각해 보았다. 마지막으로 예배 회복을 위한 칼빈의 창조론적 제언으로 다음 네 가지명제를 제시하고자 한다. 첫째, 하나님은 창조주이시며 인간은 그의 피조물이라는 창조론적 기본 명제에 기초하여 인간은 마땅히 그분께 예배를 통해서 영광을 돌려드려야 한다. 둘째, 칼빈의 경건 이해는 창조주 하나님의 뜻과 주권에 대한 순종의 차원에서 그의 피조물인 인간이 믿음으로 예배를 드리는 것이 마땅하다는 결론을 제공한다. 셋째, 피조세계의 질서와 하나님의 속성 사이에 일종의 상응 관계가 존재하기 때문에 예배에 대한 창조론적 고찰은 성경에 집결되어 나타난다. 넷째, 창조주 하나님이 자연에 부여하신 질서를 깨닫고 이에 근거해서 인간 사회의 질서와 공의에 관심을 기울여서 올바른 사회 윤리를 실천해야 할 것이다.

This article is an attempt to figure out what kind of suggestion Calvin provided for the restoration of worship seen from the perspective of the doctrine of creation. Calvin heavily criticized idolatry practiced in the Roman Catholic Church. In our consideration of Calvin’s criticism on idolatry, it was divided into the three points of human error, human rebellion, and human pride. As a preliminary consideration of Calvin’s suggestion for the restoration of worship, his understanding of nature as the created world by the Creator has been explained in terms of God’s robe, God’s theater of glory, and mirror reflecting God. Finally, Calvin’s suggestion for the restoration of worship has been enumerated in following four propositions. First, That God is the creator and human beings are His creature teaches us human beings should give glory to him in their worship. Second, Calvin’s view on piety provides us a conclusion that it is the duty of human being as a creature of God to worship the Creator in faith according to His will and sovereignty. Third, Scripture is the right place where we can obtain a proper consideration of the worship from the perspective of the doctrine of creation because there is a correspondence between the order of the created world and the attributes of God. Fourth, we should realize the order God the Creator has provided in nature and make an effort to practice a proper social ethics by focusing on the order and justice in human society.
