본 연구는 해외에서 근무하는 한국 교수의 정착 과정을 탐색하였다. 연구참여자는 우즈베키스탄에서 근무했던 한국 교수 2인이다. 이들이 우즈베키스탄에서 20개월 동안 경험한 기록 결과물을바탕으로 질적 연구를 하였다. 첫째, 해외에서 교수를 한다는 것은 불투명의 연속이지만 시간이 지나면서 해결과 체념을 반복하며 정착해 갔다. 둘째, 낮은 물가와 풍부한 농산물, 자연과 더불어 지내는 것은 만족스러웠지만 의료시스템의 불안감으로 건강이 위험 요소로 작용하였다. 셋째, 현지인들과 친밀한 관계를 맺기 위해서는 서로 존중하며 소통해야 했다. 본 연구는 최근 어려움을 겪고있는 한국의 대학들과 중앙아시아 국가들의 고등교육 분야에서의 협력을 이루는 과정에서 해외에체류하게 될 한국 구성원들의 적응과 생활에 도움이 될 것이다. 또한 우즈베키스탄 사람들과 상호교류하는데 기여할 것으로 본다.
This study explored the settlement process of Korean professors working abroad. The study participants were two Korean professors working in Uzbekistan. Qualitative research was conducted based on the record results they experienced for 20 months locally. First, teaching abroad is a series of uncertainties, but over time, it has been settled by repeating resolution and resignation. Second, it was satisfactory to live along with low prices, rich agricultural products, and the nature, the health issue functioned as a threat factor due to anxiety on the medical system. Third, in order to establish a close relationship with the locals, we had to respect and communicate with each other. This study can be helpful for Korean members who will be staying abroad in the process of cooperating with Korean universities, which are currently experiencing difficulties, in the field of higher education in Central Asian couniries. It is also expected to contribute to mutual exchange with the people of Uzbekistan.
