The substance of Takesima as a scientific name of a plant

본 논문은 독도와 울릉도의 특산식물 학명을 비교·분석하였다. 울릉도와 독도는 역사적으로 울릉도, 무릉도, 우산도 등 시대별 표기가 다양하며, 일본인들은 17세기부터 울릉도를 죽도(竹島, 다케시마)라고 부르고, 독도를 송도(松島, 마쓰시마)라고 표기하였다. 이후 1905년 일본의 독도에 대한 강제적 영토 편입조치 이후 독도의 명칭이 죽도로 변경되었다. 울릉도의 특산식물은 37속 45종 3변종 1품종의 49분류군으로 확인되며, 독도의 특산식물은 3분류군으로 조사되었다. 이중 takesima와 관련된 종소명을 가진 특산식물은 12분류군으로 울릉도에 자생하는 특산식물은 12분류군(100%), 독도에 자생하는 특산식물은 2분류군(16.7%)으로 확인되었다. Takesima와 관련된 종소명을 가진 특산식물 12분류군 중 10분류군은 Nakai에 의해 명명되었다. 그러나 기록에 따르면 Nakai는 1917년 5월 30일부터 약 20일정도 울릉도와 울릉도 주변의 작은 섬인 죽도(竹島, 현재 대섬)을 방문하여 채집하였으나, 독도는 방문하지 않았다. 따라서 일본이 주장하는 타케시마(takesima)는 식물학적으로도 울릉도를 뜻하는 것일뿐이며, 독도를 의미하는 것은 아닌 것이다.

This paper compared and analyzed the scientific names of endemic plants of Dokdo and Ulleungdo. Ulleungdo and Dokdo are historically marked by different eras such as Ulleungdo, Mureungdo, and Usando. The Japanese have called Ulleungdo as Jukdo(Takesima), and recorded Dokdo as Songdo(Matsushima) since the 17th century. After Japan's forced territorial annexation of Dokdo in 1905, the name of Dokdo was changed to Jukdo(Takesima). Plants endemic to Ulleungdo were identified as 37 genera, 45 species, 3 variants, 1 variety, and 49 taxa. Among them, 12 taxa were identified for endemic plants with a species epithet related to takesima, 12 taxa (100%) for endemic plants native to Ulleungdo, and 2 taxa (16.7%) for endemic plants native to Dokdo. Of the 12 taxa of endemic plants with scientific name related to takesima, 10 taxa were named by Nakai. However, according to records, Nakai visited Ulleungdo and Jukdo (now Dae Island), a small island around Ulleungdo, for about 20 days from May 30, 1917, but did not visit Dokdo. Therefore, the Japanese claim that takeshima refers only to Ulleungdo botanically, not Dokdo.1
