일제강점기 일본인의 평양 관광 연구

A Study on the Tourism of the Japanese People in Pyongyang during the Japanese Colonial Period

이 연구는 일제강점기 일본인들이 쓴 기행문을 이용하여 그들의 평양 관광을 복원하고, 그 특징을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 관광객과 주요 관광지의 성격, 그리고 관광에 이용한 교통수단과 숙박·식사 등을 분석하였으며, 시간 흐름에 따른 변화를 포착하려 하였다. 그 결과, 평양을 관광한 일본인은 교원이 가장 많았으며, 대부분 1박 2일 또는 1일의 일정으로 관광하였다. 주요 관광지들은 일제강점기 이전부터 존재하던 명승고적이었으나, 대부분 일본의 침략사가 덧씌워진 장소들이었다. 일제는 평양의 관광지에서 관광객들이 일본제국의 확대 과정을 기억할 수 있도록 유도하였다. 철도와 자동차로 대표되는 근대 교통수단의 발달은 일본인의 평양 관광에 여러 가지 영향을 미쳤다. 그리고 일본인은 식민지 조선을 관광하였지만, 일본식 숙소에서 자고, 주로 일본 음식을 먹으며 관광을 하였다.

The purpose of this research is to examine travel writings written by the Japanese during the time when Korea was under Japanese rule in order to restore their Pyongyang tourism and investigate its characteristics. This paper analyzed who Japanese tourists were, where they visited, and what transportations they used for tourism. The types of accommodation, and meals they had while travelling were also analyzed. In this analysis, we attempted to capture changes over time. As a result, most of the Japanese who visited Pyongyang were teachers, and most of them traveled on a two-day or one-day schedule. The main tourist attractions they visited were scenic spots that existed before Japanese colonial era, but most of them were also places covered with the history of Japanese invasion. The Japanese government encouraged tourists to remember the expansion of the Japanese Empire at tourist attractions in Pyongyang. The development of modern transportation, represented by railroads and automobiles, had various influences on Japanese tourism to Pyongyang. In addition, although the Japanese toured colonial Joseon but slept in Japanese-style accommodation and mainly ate Japanese food.
