이 연구는 민주화 이후 언론 영역에서 ‘민주주의와 성장의 관계’에 대해 형성된 담론 지형이 어떤 형태와 양상을 띠는지 살펴보기 위한 것이다. 또한 중앙일보와 한겨레신문에서 규정된 성장주의에 대한 담론이 진보정부와 보수정부에서 어떤 경로의존성을 보이는지 비교, 검증한다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 진보정부 시기 ‘민주주의와 성장‘에 대한 중앙일보의 담론은 기업 활동의 가치를 최우선에 두고, 규제와 간섭을 최소화하는 작은 정부를 주문하는 신자유주의의 전형이었다. 또한 이 시기 ‘민주주의와 성장’에 대한 한겨레신문의 담론은 양극화와 신자유주의에 대한 비판이 주를 이루고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 이명박‧박근혜 정부 시기 중앙일보의 ‘민주주의와 성장’에 대한 담론은 독재를 미화하고 합리화하는 영속화 전략을 실행하는 것으로 확인됐다. 이에 비해 이 시기 한겨레신문의 ‘민주주의와 성장’에 대한 담론은 보수언론과 시민사회에서 이전 시기부터 등장해 본격화된 박정희 재평가 논리를 정면으로 반박하는 것이었다. 결론적으로 우리 사회에서 확고한 지배담론의 지위를 점유하고 있는 성장주의에 대해 정반대의 담론실천을 보여주는 양 신문의 위치 설정은 역사적 현실과 이념적 가치지향의 충돌을 명시적으로 드러내는 공적 영역으로서의 장소성을 확인시켜준다.
This article will analyze the shape and the discursive terrain formed on the ‘relationship between democracy and growth’ in the media field after democratization in Korea. In addition, it will be to compare and verify the path dependence of the discourse on growth paradigm stipulated in each media company between the progressive and conservative governments. The results are as follows. First, JoongAng Ilbo's discourse on 'democracy and growth' during the progressive government is the epitome of neoliberalism, which puts the value of corporate activities first and ordered a small government that minimizes regulation and interference. Also, it was found that the Hankyoreh's discourse on 'democracy and growth' during this period mainly criticized polarization and neoliberalism. Second, it was confirmed that the JoongAng Ilbo’s discourse on ‘democracy and growth’ during the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye regime implemented a perpetuation strategy that glorified and rationalized the dictatorship. In contrast, the Hankyoreh newspaper's discourse on 'democracy and growth' during this period directly contradicted the logic of Park Chung-hee's re-evaluation, which had appeared in the conservative media and civil society since the previous period. In conclusion, the positioning of the two newspapers, showing the opposite practice about growth paradigm discourse, which occupies a firm dominant position in our society, explicitly reveals the spatiality as a public domain where historical reality and ideological value orientation collide.
