Changes in the Face of Korean/Japanese Apology and Response Strategies: From the Point of View of Impoliteness

In this paper, apology and response strategies in Korean and Japanese TV dramas were analyzed from the point of view of impoliteness through changes in face. In particular, Through the strategic use of the apology speaker and the apology hearer, the phenomenon of ‘formal apology’ without an apology rather than an apology based on politeness was investigated, and the resulting change in face was investigated. As a result, first of all, the appearance of “mock politeness” in both Korean and Japanese can be classified as “formal apology I.” This is characterized by an apology listener’s defense and acceptance strategy. In formal apology I in both Korean and Japanese, the strategy used by the apology speaker was 'false politeness’, and the apology seeker showed defense and acceptance strategies. In the case of indecent strategy in which ‘formal apology II’ was used, it was found that the apology hearer also used an aggressive strategy. Interestingly, in the case of Japanese using formal apology I, it was found that the use of an aggressive strategy toward the other party appeared more clearly than in Korean.

本稿では、韓国の日本のドラマに現れる謝罪·応答ストラテジーの使用様相と、フェイス(face)の変化について、インポライトネス(impoliteness)の観点から分析·考察を行った。特に、謝罪話者と謝罪聴者間におけるストラテジー使用を分析し、ポライトネスに基づいた謝罪という観点ではなく、謝罪の気持ちが込められていない‘形式的な謝罪’として現れている事例に注目し、該当談話におけるフェイスの変化を分析した。 その結果として、まず、韓国語と日本語の両語において、‘偽りのポライトネス(mock politeness)’として出現したのを‘形式的謝罪Ⅰ’と分類することができる。これは、謝罪聴者が防御·承諾ストラテジーが現れているのが特徴的である。一方、‘形式的謝罪Ⅱ’と分類した類では、謝罪聴者も攻撃的なストラテジーを使用しているという傾向が見られた。韓日両言語における相違点としては、｢形式的謝罪Ⅰ｣で、日本語のほうが、韓国語より謝罪聴者に攻撃的なストラテジーの使用が顕著である点である。
