いわゆる｢さすがのNも｣をめぐって

On “Sasugano+N+mo”: Focusing on the Form of “sasugano+N” and the Function of “mo”

｢さすが｣には副詞的用法、連体用法があり、連体用法ではいわゆる｢さすがのNも｣構文として知られている。本稿では実例をもとに｢さすがのN｣の形を調査し、｢さすがのNも｣の意味的·構文的な特徴について論じた。 まず、｢さすがのN｣は一つの名詞句として文の中で主語の他、補語、述語などの位置におかれ、多様な形で用いられている。そのうち、｢さすがのNも｣の用例が最も多い。次に、｢さすがのN｣を含む文の意味は大きく順接用法と逆接用法に分けることができるが、｢さすがのNも｣は逆接の関係を表している。その意味は使用文脈によって｢属性的変化｣｢心理·生理的変化｣｢状況的変化｣に分けられる。また、｢さすがのNも｣の主名詞には人名や地名などのような固有名詞、人称代名詞がよく使われていることが明らかとなった。 ｢さすがのNも｣のこのような特徴は｢も｣の機能と深く関わっており、｢も｣によってとりたてられる要素を｢さすがの｣が｢意外性の高い極端なもの｣として評価づけ、それが他のふつうのものと同類であることとそれに対する意外さが表されると言えそうである。

This study analyzes the construction “sasugano+N+mo” and attempts to clarify its semantic and syntactic features based on actual examples. “Sasugano+N” is placed in complement, predicate, or subject position in a sentence, and used in various forms as a noun phrase. However, among these various forms, the form of “sasugano+N+mo” is observed most frequently. In addition, the meaning of “sasugano+N” can be divided into non- adversative and adversative. “Sasugano+N+mo” expresses the adversative relationship and represents an “accidental (temporary) change of attribute”, “emotional (psychological)/physiological change”, or “situational change” of “sasugano+N” depending on contexts. This study demonstrates proper nouns such as personal names or place names and personal pronouns indicating a specific person or thing are often used. Such meanings of “sasugano+N+mo” appear to be related to the function of “mo”. “Sasugano” evaluates the noun as “an unexpected and extreme thing”, and “sasugano+N+mo” expresses the unexpectedness that it is similar to other ordinary things.
