일본 사소설의 전통과 니시무라 겐타(西村健太)의 『고역열차(苦役列車)』

The Tradition of Autobiographical Novels in Japan and Kenta Nishimura’s Drudgery Train

In this study, I analyse Kenta Nishimura’s (2010) Drudged Train in order to explore the connection between the tradition of autobiographical novels and contemporary autographical novels. Kenta Nishimura’s Drudged Train, a 2011 Akutagawa-Prize winning novel, follows the tradition of autobiographical novels in Japan. ‘Drudged Train’, Kanta Kitamachi knew the fact that his father was a sexual criminal when he was a junior high school student, and he gave up studying in high school and was engaged in a dock work in a harbour as a daily labourer. In this way, Drudged Train describes the adolescent and the middle-aged period of Kenta Nishimura, revealing his nihilism and his ruin. Given that the tradition of autobiographical novels remains in Japan, then, why are autofiction novels, which are similar to autobiographical novels, not rooted in Korea? Finally, there are many Japanese people who like to ‘pry’ into other people’s affairs. Since these points do not apply to Korea, autobiographical novels have not been established in the country.

この研究は私小説を継承した西村健太の『苦役列車』(2010)を分析することで私小説の伝統と現代の私小説の繋がりを検討する。2011年、芥川賞を受賞した西村健太の『苦役列車』は日本の私小説の伝統を継承している。私小説は作家自信をモデルにして、ありのままの事実を描き、虚構を排除している。また、私小説は貧乏、性欲、不倫を主なテーマにして、社会と断絶した個人を描く。『苦役列車』は貧乏と性欲を描いており、性犯罪者の息子として世の中との疎通を断絶した西村健太の私生活を暴露している。 第一部の｢苦役列車｣では、北町貫多が中学校の時、父が性犯罪者という事実を知り、高校の進学を諦め、港湾での荷役労働に従事することで日稼ぎの人生を送ることを描いている。第二部の｢落ちぶれて袖に涙の降りかかる｣では、小説作家になった中年の北町貫多が川端賞の発表の日に受賞の連絡を待つが、受賞できなかったことを描いている。このように『苦役列車』は西村健太の青年期と中年期の私生活を土台にして作家の虚無主義と破滅を書いている。 それではなぜ日本には私小説の伝統が続いているが、韓国には私小説と似ているオートフィクションは根をおろせないのか。その理由を見ると、まず、日本人は自分自身を犠牲して私小説を書いた作家の勇気に拍手を送る。次に日本人は政治に関心がない。最後に日本の覗き趣味である。このような要素が韓国にはない。従って、日本と異なった文学風土が韓国に私小説が定着できない要素である。
