본 고는 피란수도기에 부산을 무대로 한 미술가들의 동향과 작품 성향에 관해 당시 비중 있게 다루었던 신문 기사를 발췌하여 분석하고 담론으로 제안하기 위한 목적의 연구이다. 한국전쟁 발발로 인해 서울과 전국 각지의 작가들은 부산으로 모여들었고, 북에서 월남한 작가들까지 합류하면서 한국화단은 한정된 공간에서 새로운 기류를 형성하였다. 당시 부산에서는 유입 작가와 토박이 작가라는 두 부류로 존재하게 되었고 휴전 이후에는 부산미술뿐만 아니라 한국미술의 정체성 대한 담론에도 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 따라서 이 시기 미술가들의 활동 양상이나 작품의 특성에 관한 연구는 높은 중요도에 비해 미진한 편이다. 한국 미술사의 변곡점이었던 3년간의 피란수도기 미술은 담론 형성과 활발한 연구가 필요하지만 아직은 미약하다. 전쟁 상황에 미술 활동과 작품 성향에 관한 기록이 많지 않았을 뿐만 아니라 기사들도 정보제공을 위한 단신(短信) 방식이 대부분이었고, 개인적으로 수집한 자료들은 객관성과 정확성이 떨어지는 이유 등으로 연구에 어려움이 있다. 따라서 당시의 신문을 포함한 인쇄 매체의 자료들은 매우 중요한 연구자료로 작용한다. 본 고에서는 당시 미술과 관련한 특별한 이슈를 다루었던 기사를 통해 유입 미술가들의 주도적이었던 활동 양상에 관해 분석하고, 이론적 평가로 접근하는 글에서 당시 작품의 성향을 분석해 크게 두 맥락으로 정리하였다. 활동 양상과 작품 성향이라는 두 관점에서 당시 창작활동의 환경, 작가 간의 상호관계, 작품 성향 그리고 경제활동 등을 알 수 있다. 피란수도기 부산에서의 화단에 관한 많은 분석과 심층적인 연구의 필요성에 대한 인식 재고의 계기가 되기를 바란다.
Due to the outbreak of Korean War artists migrated and gathered from all over the country to Busan and even artists from North Korea joined so that new wave has occurred with spatial limit in Korean Art. At that moment there were two branches led by native and alien artists in Busan. They caused enormous effect on not only art in Busan after the Korean Armistice Agreement but also discourse on identity of Korean Art. Thus, intensive study of activity patterns of artists and characteristic of artwork of the age is considered eminently important. Nevertheless, there were not enough archival materials about them during the war and most of articles existed only to provide information. In addition, the documentary, which was collected individually, was discussed in objectivity deficit and a lack of accuracy. Those are the reason of difficulty in research. Accordingly, all the printed media including newspaper at the time acts crucial as materials. The author investigated articles about two topics in this study: Activity patterns with leading alien artists and the theoretical perspective of characteristic of artwork. The prerequisite for building a discourse regarding to both is addressed. Furthermore, the author is hereby able to contribute to bring up reconsideration of the necessity of in-depth research and serve as a motivation.
