부산 기장군 토박이 해녀의 전통성과 지역성

A Study on Tradition and Locality of Land-born Haenyeo in Gijang area: Focusing on the late Joseon Dynasty

이 글은 부산 지역 토박이 해녀의 역사적 고찰을 위한 선행 연구로 조선후기 기장의 토박이 해녀[잠부와 잠녀]의 전통성과 지역성을 밝히고자 했다. 조선후기 심노숭의 『남천일록』을 중심으로 관련 문헌자료를 분석한 결과 신라시대로부터 조선말엽까지 기장지역에는 잠부와 잠녀가 존재했고, 이들의 생산 활동양상은 현재 기장지역 토박이 해녀와 동일했음을 알 수 있었다. 다만 조선시대 시행되었던 전복 진상제도 속에서 시대적 차이점을 엿볼 수 있는데, 기장 지역에서는 다른 지역과 달리 잠부[진상군과 침수군]가 진상용 전복 채취를 전담했던 것으로 나타났다. 또한 기장지역에서는 예로부터 곽암중심의 미역채취가 이루어지면서 다른 지역과 달리 잠녀를 채곽잠녀와 채복잠녀로 나누는 관행이 달리 없었음을 알 수 있었다. 한편, 조선후기까지 기장지역 토박이 해녀의 물질 방식은 보조 장치인 ‘생명줄’을 이용한 방식으로 당시 제주도 해녀의 잠수 어로 기술에 뒤쳐져 있었는데, 이러한 지역적 편차는 19세기 말엽부터 기장지역에 유입된 제주도 해녀들의 영향으로 잠수 어로 기술이 향상되면서 상호 동질화되었다.

The purpose of this thesis is to reveal the history of land-born haenyeo who are active in Gijang, Busan. Therefore, we analyzed Namcheon Ilrok and historical books by Sim No-Sung in the late Joseon Dynasty. As a result of the analysis, it was found that from the Silla Dynasty to the Joseon Dynasty, there were Jambu and Jamnyeo in Gijang. And it was confirmed that their production activities were the same as those of the current haenyeo. In the Joseon Dynasty, there was a system to offer abalone to the royal family. At Gijang, abalones were collected from Jambu [a man who gathers seafood by diving], Chimsu-gun, and Jinsang-gun to the royal family. However, Jamnyeo [a woman who gathers seafood by diving] did not participate. In Gijang, there are many rocks on the beach. So, the people there collected seaweed from Gaetbawi. Jamnyeo did not collect seaweed much. In the Joseon Dynasty, the method of diving by land-born haenyeo was different from that of Jeju-do haenyeo. People from the land tied a rope to their body to ensure safety. However, the Jeju-do haenyeo dived without tying the rope. The diving skills of the Jeju-do haenyeo were superior to those of land-based haenyeo. At the end of the 19th century, Jeju-do haenyeo advanced inland. At that time, the haenyeo from the land learned diving techniques from the haenyeo in Jeju Island. So, the current land-born haenyeo dive in the same way as the Jeju-do haenyeo.
