한국 시민들의 신뢰수준이 정치참여에 미치는 효과 연구

An Empirical Research on the Effects of Trust on Political Participation in South Korea

본 연구는 한국 시민들의 신뢰수준이 그들의 정치참여에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가에 대해 경험적 분석을 실시한다. 이를 위해 2014년 한국종합사회조사 자료를 이용하며, 신뢰를 일반신뢰와 공적신뢰로 구분한다. 특히 일반신뢰에는 우리 사회와 일반인에 대한 신뢰를 포함하고, 공적신뢰에는 국회, 사법부, 그리고 중앙정부에 대한 신뢰를 포함한다. 또한 정치참여의 유형은 투표참여, 정당참여, 시위참가, 그리고 정치인 및 공무원 접촉으로 구분한다. 본 연구의 주요 분석 결과에 따르면, 첫째, 우리 사회에 대한 신뢰는 투표참여에 긍정적인 영향력을 미쳤다. 이는 사회공동체에 대한 믿음이 높을 경우 민주시민으로서의 주인의식 증진을 통해 투표참여에 적극적일 수 있음을 보여준다. 둘째, 중앙정부에 대한 신뢰는 정치인 및 공무원 접촉에 긍정적인 영향력을 행사하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 일반 시민들과 엘리트 사이의 연계가 더욱 활발해질 수 있다면, 시민주도형의 참여민주주의가 가능할 것임을 시사한다. 마지막으로, 사회경제적 변수 중에서는 학력이 모든 정치참여 유형에 긍정적인 영향력을 발휘한 반면, 연령은 투표참여와 시위참여 각각에 상반된 방향으로 영향력을 행사한 것으로 나타났다.

This research empirically analyzes the effects of trust on political participation of Korean people. Trust, in this paper, is explored into two parts: general trust(on our society and the public) and public trust(on the legislature, judiciary and the executive branch). Types of political participation are divided into voting, party participation, demonstrations, and contacts to public service providers. The results of analyses mainly provide three findings. Firstly, trust on our society has positive effects on citizens’ voting participation. Secondly, trust on the executive body has positive effects on contacts to public officials. Lastly, while education affects all types of political participation positively, the influence of age shows different direction depending on the types of political participation.
