본 연구는 기호학적 텍스트 분석 방법을 적용해 넷플릭스 오리지널 시리즈 <킹덤>의 영상 텍스트 내기호의 의미생성과 그 기호적 의미의 전환과정을 추적한다. 구체적으로 본 연구는 작품 내 좀비의 역할과 기능, 그리고 그것이 함의하는 바를 텍스트 내적인 측면에서 이해한다. 이는 이전의 선행연구들에서는 상대적으로 경시된 부분으로 관련 연구대상에 대한 이해는 작품의 일부 장면적인 연출보다는 전체적인 서사 맥락과 전개를 참고하는 작업과 더불어 다른 서사적 주체 또는 사회구조와의 관계성에 대한파악이 필수적으로 수반되어야 한다. 이에 해당 연구 업적의 달성을 위해 본 연구는 기호학적 방법론의의의에 의거해 <킹덤>의 영상 텍스트에서 제시되는 기호를 분석함으로써 텍스트에서 생성되고 발현되는 기호와 그 의미작용을 규명하고 해당 작품 내 이데올로기적 의미구조를 파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 그리고 이러한 연구목적에 의거해 본 연구는 기호학적 텍스트 분석을 통해 작품에서 재현되는 좀비의 형식(더럽고 기형적이며 훼손된 육체와 그 신체적 표현)을 탐구하고, <킹덤>에서 좀비를 중심으로형상화되는 특정한 사회구조 안에서 각각의 기호가 표상하는 바와 그 관계를 분석함으로써 해당 작품에서 제시되는 기호가 지시하는 바와 그것과 관련된 이데올로기적 층위들을 살펴본다.
This study applies a semiotic text analysis method to track the generation of symbols in the image text of Netflix’s original series Kingdom and the conversion process of its symbolic meaning. Specifically, this study understands the role and function of zombies in the drama and their implications in its text. Also, analyzing zombies in the drama requires understanding the relationship with other narrative subjects or structures of Joseon society along with the overall narrative context and development. Based on the significance of the semiotic methodology, this study aims to determine the symbols generated and expressed in the text by analyzing each symbol in Kingdom. Furthermore, through semiotic text analysis, this study explores the dirty, deformed, damaged bodies of zombies and their physical expression reproduced in the drama. Moreover, it analyzes the representation and relationship of each symbol in Kingdom and reveals the layer of ideology that the work intends to present.
