인간의 자기 이해의 관점에서 본 니체의 도덕비판

A Reconstruction of Nietzsche’s Critique of Morality from the Perspective of Self-Understanding with a Focus on Daybreak

본고는 니체의 도덕비판을 인간의 자기 이해를 확장하려는 시도로 이해하고 이와 관련한 니체의 논의를 재구성하는 것을 목표로 한다. 니체의 도덕비판은 도덕이론을 넘어서 인간의 자기 이해를 확장하려는 시도의 일환으로 이해될 수 있다는 것이 이 글의 기본적인 문제의식이다. 니체의 도덕비판의 주요한 동기 중 하나는 기존의 도덕이 전제하고 있는 편협하고 피상적인 인간 이해를 넘어서, 인간에 대해서 새로 배우고 우리가 자기 자신과 세계에 대해 다르게 느끼는 것이다. 니체는 기존의 도덕이 전제하는 인간 이해의 피상성을 지적하기 위해 무의식의 수준에서 작동하면서 인간의 본질을 구성하는 충동을 중심으로 인간을 이해하고자 한다. 충동은 우리의 인식과 행위에 있어서 지대한 영향을 미치고 있다. 이러한 충동의 중요성을 상기한다면, 충동이 함축하는 ‘자기 안의 타자’의 중요성을 이해하게 될 것이며, 우리의 내부로부터 ‘타자’들이 자신들의 목소리를 내고 있다는 사실을 이해하게 된다. 충동은 ‘이성의 타자’이며, ‘역사적이고 사회적인 타자’이다. 그리고 우리의 가장 심층적인 부분에서부터 ‘타자’들이 존재하고 있기 때문에, 우리의 삶을 조형하고 형성해나가는 영역 역시 제한될 수밖에 없다. 따라서 우리는 이미 항상 타자들과 ‘더불어’ 살고 있으며, 타자들의 영향력을 조심스럽게 분별하면서, 즉 타자들을 ‘넘어서’ 성숙한 자기 이해에 도달할 수 있도록 노력을 기울여야 할 것이다.

This essay aims to reconstruct Nietzsche’s critique of morality from the perspective of human self-understanding. Because Nietzsche criticized not only various moral theories, his critique is oriented toward widening the self-understanding of humans. A fundamental motive of Nietzsche’s critique of morality is to overcome the biased and superficial self-understanding of humans that traditional morality represented, and ultimately to feel ourselves and our world differently, by relearning about humanity. In order to point out the superficiality of previous human self-understanding, Nietzsche attempts to grasp the spontaneity of drives that constitute the essence of human on an unconscious level. Drive significantly influences the cognition and action of humans. If the importance of drive is evoked, we can understand the importance that drive implies ‘the other in the self’, and grasp the idea that a voice of the other echoes from our inner world. Drive is ‘the other of reason’ and ‘the historical, social other’. Because the other exists in our inner world on the deepest level, the area of forming and creating life can be limited by the other. Consequently, we should recognize what we already and always live with the other. In addition, we should carefully look at the influence of the other in the self in order to reach a mature and comprehensive self-understanding.
