결혼이주여성의 다중부담에 영향 미치는 사회적 관계: ‘단단한 껍데기’와 ‘날개’가 되는 관계를 중심으로

The impact of the social relationships on married immigrant women’s multiple burdens: Focusing on the relationships that act as ‘hard shells’ and ‘wings’

본 연구의 목적은 결혼이주여성의 다중부담에 영향을 미치는 사회적 관계 양상을 그대로 드러내어 보여줌으로써 이들의 다중부담 완화와 웰빙(well-being)을 위한 사회복지적 함의를 도출하는데 있다. 이를 위해 결혼이주여성 6명을 대상으로 사례연구를 진행하였다. 한국에 적응해가는 결혼이주여성을 나비가 되어 비상을 기다리는 번데기에 비유하여 이들의 다중부담에 영향을 미치는 사회적 관계를 살펴보았다. 연구 결과, 결혼이주여성에게 ‘단단한 껍데기’로 작용하는 사회적 관계는이들의 어머니, 며느리, 아내, 외국인으로서의 부담을 가중시켰다. 한편, 정서적, 물질적, 정보적 지지가 되는 사회적 관계는 ‘날개’로 작용하여 이들의 다중부담을 완화하는 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 결혼이주여성이 이주 후 새롭게 맺는 사회적 관계가 이들의 다중부담에 중요한 영향을미치는 것을 보여준다. 따라서 가정 내 성평등을 위한 프로그램 방향성 설정, 상호문화존중을 기반으로 한 문화적응 교육 실시, 원주민과 이주여성 간 자조모임 확대를 위한 정책 개정 등을 제언하였다.

The purpose of this study is to derive social welfare implications for well-being and multiple burdens relief by revealing the social relationship patterns that affect the multiple burdens of married immigrant women. To this end, a case study was conducted on six married immigrant women. We analyzed the social relationships that affect their multiple burdens by comparing married immigrant women who are adapting to Korea to pupae waiting for becoming butterflies. As a result of the study, the social relationships that act as “hard shells” for married immigrant women intensified their burden as mothers, daughters-in-law, wives, and foreigners. On the other hand, it was found that social relationships, which are emotional, material, and information support, act as ‘wings’ and play roles in alleviating their multiple burdens. It shows that the newly formed social relationships of married immigrant women after immigration have important effects on their multiple burdens. Therefore, it suggested setting program’s direction for gender-equality in the home, conducting cultural adaptation education based on mutual respect, and revising policies to expand self-help groups between indigenous and married immigrant women.
