니체의 철학이 삶의 긍정의 윤리학을 포함하고 있음은 그동안 많은 이들에의해 강조되었고 또 다양한 측면에서 설명되어왔다. 필자는 몸과 생성, 운명과영원회귀 등 긍정의 철학의 내용에 대한 지금까지의 연구를 보완하는 의미에서,삶의 부정의 현상으로 우회하여 니체에게서 긍정의 문제를 조명한다. 니체에관한 흔한 독해는 주인과 강한 자들이 삶의 부정의 문제에서 완전히 자유롭다고상정한다. 그러나 니체의 글에는 능동과 반동, 긍정과 부정의 단순한 이원적대당으로는 설명하기 어려운 복잡하고 미묘한 현상들에 대한 주시가 존재한다. 필자는 이로부터, 니체의 통찰에 따르면 삶의 부정이란 단지 인간의 일부에게국한되는 문제가 아니라 인류 자체의 문제, 곧 인간으로서의 삶 자체에 필연적으로 수반하는 문제라고 주장한다. 삶의 부정의 위험성은 사회적․문명적 삶을살아가는 인간 모두의 문제이며 바로 이러한 이유에서 니체는 인간을 “병약한동물”로 규정했다. 이러한 주장은 모든 능동적인 자기형성의 과정에 수반하는“자신에 대한 나쁜 감정”의 대한 분석에 근거한다.
It is well known that Nietzsche’s thought implies an ethics of affirmation. In this work I’ll try to take a new approach to the problem of affirmation and negation. Usually it is thought that Nietzsche’s masters are free of negation and of any reactivity and that the curse of negation is only the fate of the slaves or those who are weak. But Nietzsche himself takes a notice to those subtle and complex phenomena which cannot be easily labelled active or reactive,affirmative or negative. As an example of such phenomena, I’ll take up the “active ‘bad conscience’” in the second essay of The Genealogy of Morality and show that, according to Nietzsche, a certain form of negation threatens not just a part of humanity such as the slaves or the weaklings but humanity itself, including the masters and those who are strong and creative. A certain form of negation is a necessary accompaniment to any human, social and civilized life. This is why humanity is called “the sick animal.” Based on the close analysis of the essay, I’ll show the Nietzschean anthropological insight that what makes humanity different from the other animals could give it both a great future and a great danger. Any talk of the Nietzschean affirmative life should consider these anthropological thoughts.
