Development of Interpreting Ability Self-Assessment Can-Do List for General Language Learners

DOI : 10.23903/kaited.2022.20.2.009

The purpose of this study is to develop a Can-Do list for scientific self-assessment of interpreting abilities for general language learners based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), in order to explore effective learning goal setting and assessment methods. For general language learners who are difficult to receive professional interpreting education and evaluation, the Can-Do List can play an important role in their own interpreting learning and ability improvement. Unlike the ‘certification standards’ for each level of competence specified in the Interpreting Proficiency Test, the Can-Do List specifies ‘what exactly can be achieved by interpreting’ for learners at each level. This study focuses on general language learners what have not been paid attention to before, and details the development process of the Can-Do List. The Can-Do list uses positive sentence forms, which is expected to make general language learners have an active attitude of participating in learning and stimulate a sense of learning achievement.
