한국 의료기기산업의 국제 경쟁력 분석에 관한 연구

A Study on the International Competitiveness Analysis of the Korean Medical Device Industry: Focusing on Comparison with the US, China, Japan, and EU

본 연구에서는 의료기기 품목을 용도별로 구분하여 의료기기 산업 전반에 대한 현시비교우위(RCA), 대칭적 현시비교우위지수(RSCA), 무역특화지수(TSI),, 수출경합도지수(ESI) 등을 활용하여 미국, 중국, 일본, EU와의 경쟁력을 분석하였다. 분석결과 RCA와 SRCA분석과, 무역특화지수(TSI)분석에서는 한국의 의료기기 품목이 대다수 경쟁력이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 한국과 미국, 한국과 중국, 한국과 EU의 수출경합도를 보면, HS 8419, HS 9018, HS 9021, HS 9022 등 4가지 품목이 세계시장에서 경합중인 것으로 나타나 경쟁이 매우 치열한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이에 우리나라 의료기기 산업은 경쟁력 강화를 위해 IT산업의 강점을 이용한 질적 성장 및 의료기기 인프라 구축 등 연구개발을 통한 품질향상, 가격경쟁력 확보, 브랜드 이미지 강화, 해외마케팅 역량 강화, 제품디자인 강화, 인증획득 비용지원 등 전반적인 산업육성정책 및 산업구조 개선을 통해 세계시장에서 우리나라 의료기기 산업의 제품차별화 방안에 대한 방안도 필요하다고 보여진다.

In this study, the competitiveness of medical devices with the US, China, Japan, and EU was analyzed using RCA, SRCA, TSI, and ESI. As a result of the analysis, first, in RCA and SRCA analysis, it was found that only two items of HS 8419 and HS 9022 were competitive among Korean medical device items. The US and EU were found to be competitive in almost all items. Second, looking at the TSI index, it can be seen that both Korea and the United States are closer to import-specific rather than export-specific. In China and the EU, the TSI index was greater than 0 for most medical device items from 2016 to 2020. Third, looking at Korea's ESI, the degree of export competition gradually increased from 2016 to 2020. It can be seen that the competition in medical device items is intensifying. The competitiveness of Korea's medical device industry was found to be lower than that of major countries. Accordingly, the Korean medical device industry needs efforts to strengthen its competitiveness.
