Objective: The purpose of this study is to identify the effects that child externalization problems as perceived by group home workers and the perceived value of work have on turnover intention. Social welfare policies and action plans are then suggested based on the research results. Methods: An online survey was conducted targeting 100 children's group home workers in both Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, and 200 individuals who completed the survey were selected for the purpose of this study. Then, hierarchical multiple regression analysis was performed to verify the relationship between each variable. Results: The results demonstrated that the externalization problem of children as recognized by group home workers did not have a significant effect on turnover intention, while the perceived value of work did have a significant effect on turnover intention. Specifically, perceived value of work was shown to have a significant effect on work value recognition and value satisfaction, which are sub-variables of the perceived value of work. The results of the study verified that childcare workers had higher turnover intentions than the directors of group homes. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that it is necessary to provide support measures for improving the perceived value of work among group home work ers as a means of lowering turnover intention, and the introduction of relevant programs and services is also suggested. As for future studies, there is an apparent need to study the factors affecting turnover intention among childcare workers.
