화이트헤드의 종교와 신에 대한 고찰

A Study on Whitehead's Religion and God

화이트헤드사상의 궁극적 목적은 직면한 현대과학의 도전을 극복하고 현대사회의 여러 변화에 적용 가능한 새로운 형이상학을 수립하는 것이다 .종교, 세계 신 등은 그의 형이상학의 완성을 위한 중요개념이다. 따라서 본연구는 이러한 종교, 세계, 신 등의 개념을 차례로 살펴봤다 . 화이트헤드는 종교가 역사 속에 일어나는 인간관심의 외적 표현이지만 ,그 특성상 인간의 내적인 것 이며, ‘홀로 있음’을 그 본질로 한다고 본다 .그리고 종교는 의례, 정서, 신념, 그리고 합리화라는 네 개의 요인과 더불어 ‘세계의식’으로 성장하여 보편적 문명의 종교가 된다. 또한 합리적인 종교는 근본적으로 우주의 질서를 발견하는 것을 목표로 한다. 종교는 신을전제하지 않고는 성립될 수 없다 . 화이트헤드는 신을 논증하기에 앞서 세계를 설명할 수 있는 새로운 형이상학을 수립하였다. 그리고 이 형이상학으로 세계를 분석하는 과정에서 신의 실재에 대한 해명을 얻고자 했다. 세계는 가능태 실현으로서의 ‘현실적존재’ 와 순수 가능태로서의 ‘영원한 객체’의 작용에 의해 규명된다. 또한신은 ‘결과적 본성’과 ‘원초적 본성’으로 구분되고 ‘창조성’으로 이해되어 ,세계의 성립근거가 되면서 동시에 세계와 관계 속에서만 존재의의를 갖는존재이다. 결론적으로 과정의 형이상학을 통해 분석한 세계의 구조는 신의구조와 대칭적상을 이루면서 상호관계를 맺고 그 속에서만 이해될 수 있는것이다 . 화이트헤드의 신관의 특징은 양극신관(兩極神觀)이며, 범재신론(凡在神論)이다. 그리고 신은 배려의 이미지이다. 신은 개인의 자유 앞에 무기력하고 전능한 창조자가 아니기에 유혹을 통해 인내심을 가지고 자신의 비전으로 세계를 이끌어가려하는 존재이다 . 이런 신은 보편적이고 편견 없는 사랑을 가지고 모든 인간을 창조했다는기독교의 신과 분명 구별된다. 과정철학의 신은 생존을 위해 치열한 삶을살아가는 사람들의 고통을 구 원해 줄 능력이 없다고 비판받을 수도 있다.그러나 화이트헤드 신관은 우리를 정체적 실재이해에서 벗어나게 해준다 .그리고 실재를 경험의 순간들로 이해하게 함으로써 실재들을 상호의존성속에서 이해할 수 있게 해준다. 과정철학은 다원화된 현대 세계에 알맞은새로운 신의 의미와 확실성을 제공해주고 세계를 새롭게 바라 볼 수 있는긍정적인 체계를 수립해주었다는데 더 큰 의의가 있다고 본다 .

The concern of my research is whether Whitehead's new metaphysics can overcome the modern science of challenge or not. According to the concern, I examined the concepts of religion, world, God, ect, in turn. Also, rational religion has the original purpose on the discover of the universe order. Religion can't be formed without the admit of God. Whitehead insists that religion is the external experience of the human interest through the history, but it is the human's internal thing and its origin is solitariness. And the religion becomes the religion of universal civilization, growing to world-consciousness, with four elements as like ritual, emotion, belief and rationalization. Whitehead established the new metaphysics being able to explain the world, before proving the God And he tried to get the answer of the reality of god in the process of world analysis using the metaphysics. The world system analyzed through the process metaphysics has the mutual relation having the image of harmony with the system of God. Whitehead's distinguishing mark from the viewpoint of God is dipolar theism, and panentheism. And the God is the image of caring. The God is the helpless existence in front of the individual freedom and isn't the almighty creator, but it is the existence with the patience overcoming the luring and trying to lead the world with the own vision This kind of God is distinguished clearly by the Christian God that creates every human with the general and impartial love. The god of process metaphysics may be criticized for being unable to help the people who are in the situation of the fierce struggle for existence, differently from traditional Christian God. But Whitehead's viewpoint of God makes us escape from the blockheaded real understanding. And it makes us understand realities in the stage of interdependence as the moments of experience and can be understood realities as the moment of experience. Process metaphysics has the significant meaning that gives the meaning of God and certainty and sets up the positive system being able to accept the new viewpoint of the world.
