이 논문은 현대인의 사망에 있어서 높은 비율을 차지하고 있는 자살에 대한 개념, 자살의 종류, 자살의 원인과 방법, 그리고 자살에 대한 견해 (예찬론과 반대론)를 다루고 있다. 자살을 반대하는 이유로는 자살이 자신의 삶을 마감하는 단순한 행위가 아니고, 사회와 공동체에 책임을 수행 하지 못할 뿐만 아니라 주위의 사람들에게 상처를 주기 때문 이라는 것이다. 기독교적 관점에서, 이 논문은 “왜 자살이 죄로 간주되며, 왜 자살을 반대 하는가?”에 대하여 성서적으로 그리고 신학적으로 논한다.

In modern world, suicide is one of the most important single causes of death. This thesis will survey the concept of suicide, various types and theories, causes of suicide, and different perspectives on suicide. As a Christian view, suicide is rejected as an arrogation of a right held only by God. Thus, suicide is a sin against God its creator. Besides, suicide is an offense against humankind in that it both deprives society and one's own family of a member prematurely.
